Bodycare Clinic Help and Advice
The Pelvic Floor Myth..... Do you Feel Empowered?
Amanda the midwife
You have just had kids or you have had them some time ago, do you feel empowered????
Well what about your pelvic floor?
I bet you were told that you should go home and do your exercises, it would OK in a few months ''down there''. Didn't work though did it.
No, it is not just you.
I recently treated midwife with mid thoracic spine and chest pain.
This came on out of the blue whilst she was running on a tread mill, when she came to see me, it was literally her coming out of the gym and into the clinic(Bodycare Clinic is situated next to the gym at K2 Crawley)
So what has this got to do with pelvic floor problems??
WELL, her problem was that her pelvic floor was very weak after giving birth to 3 kids. her back was twisted so it was not supporting the rest of her body very well, rather like the foundations of a house being weak.
When we were talking about her pelvic floor and ''bum and tum'' she bemoaned the amount of work she was putting in and getting no-where.
I just can't get rid of ''this'' she told me, holding onto an expanse of offending, problematic feminine anatomy.
I treated her legs and back, basically sorted her ''tracking'' out and we started doing some stability work with her lower back and pelvis. This just allows the muscles to work in the way they were designed and ''pre-baby''
Think about a sailing ship and all off the rigging, now think of the state of the rigging after then storm that can be child birth.
She noted an immediate increase how much more easily she could do her pelvic floor exercises, and how her ''problem area'' felt so much easier.....''finally, I can get somewhere'' she said.
It's been a few weeks now and she has noted that the effort she is putting in the gym is really getting results.
One of the best things though, apart from a happy husband, is that she can cough, run and play with the kids without having to worry......................
